Surgeon. Soldier. Statesman.
Much like our foundation, as well as the individuals and organizations within the region, General Leonard Wood was focused on the critical importance of national defense and preparedness efforts. He specifically designed and established military training camps ahead of The Great War. His efforts completely changed the way the Army would operate moving forward.
Upon establishment in 1940 to train service members for World War II, our installation was honored with the name Fort Leonard Wood after this great American. It is our mission to preserve his story and emplace a statue that celebrates his contributions and the efforts of regional community members who worked so hard to make Fort Leonard Wood a permanent Army installation.
At over 15 feet tall, the bronze statue will depict Major General Leonard Wood on horseback. Your donation will help ensure this statue becomes a focal point of the Fort Leonard Wood Community Park where service members, veterans, family members, government civilians, and visitors can reflect on their connections to the storied history of our installation and it’s namesake.
This bronze statue of General Leonard Wood will be officially gifted to the U.S. Army and emplaced on Fort Leonard Wood. It will serve to honor his contributions to the Army and connect his service with Fort Leonard Wood’s current mission: training America’s next generation of service members.
Consistent with our vision, our foundation hopes this statue will continue to preserve the history and promote the traditions of Fort Leonard Wood. We are proud to tell the story of our installation’s current and future contributions to the Army and the Department of Defense.
On behalf of the citizens, organizations, and local governments of the region, we ask you to help us raise over $400,000 for this project. Your donation will help ensure this statue becomes a focal point of the Fort Leonard Wood Community Park where service members, veterans, family members, government civilians, and visitors can reflect on their connections to the storied history of our installation and it’s namesake.
